Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, one of the aides to Rivers State's Governor Amaechi, was on Sunday, whisked away by gunmen during an APC rally.

Mr. Ndigbara, who is popularly called Freddie by government house workers, is known to be an anchor man to many of Governor Amaechi's events in and out of the government house.

According to PUNCH newspaper, Mr. Freddie was accosted and forced into a waiting car by the gunmen during a ward rally organised by the All Progressives Congress in the area. This occurred in Kaani community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers state.

Mr. Ndigbara was said to have traveled from Port Harcourt to his hometown to be a part of the rally.

According to an eye witness, the kidnappers stormed the place and struck when the organisers of the rally were planning to arrange a canopy for the rally.

Ndigbara's abductors, according to the eyewitness, had stormed the rally with a red Toyota Highlander sports utility vehicle, made a quick search for their target before forcing him into the car.  They immediately sped off to an unknown destination, just as members of the party in Kaani, Ward Six took cover to avoid being shot by the suspected kidnappers.

To confirm this incident, Mr. Blessing Wikina, a former Chief Press Secretary to Amaechi, who is also an Ogoni indigene, said a group of gunmen suspected to be thugs working for the Peoples Democratic Party, invaded the rally and took Ndigbara away in a red Toyota Highlander. Mr. Wikina described Freddie as an easy-going journalist. He condemned his abduction and called on the kidnappers to release him unconditionally.

“The action of those who kidnapped Freddie is condemnable and we call on them to release him unconditionally. Ndigbara is a gentleman that abhors violence,” he stressed.
