As part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus, Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Olaokun Soyinka, on Thursday said the state government had written a letter to the authorities of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The letter spoke on the need to be cautious of the deadly Ebola Virus during the R.C.C.G annual convention which started on Monday.

The commissioner mentioned this in Abeokuta, the state capital, while adressing a press conference on the preventive measures being taken by the state against the spread of the deadly virus.

According to the Commissioner, the letter was sent last week Friday, and that the Ogun State government also requested the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, to pass the information to the congregation about Ebola, in order to prevent its spread.

"We wrote them a letter and sent a team to the Redeemed Christian Church of God, because they are having their annual convention. We asked them to make sure they are vigilant... We wrote them last week Friday and reminded them of the dreaded Ebola virus and we commended them for what they have been doing. We asked Pastor E.A. Adeboye to pass the general information on Ebola to the congregation". He stated.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has its Redemption camp at KM 46 on the Lagos Ibadan exressway, at Mowe in Ogun State. The annual conventions held by the church pull crowds from different states in the country as well as different countries in the world. Hence the need for the letter of warning sent by the Ogun state government.

Soyinka further stated that the state governor, Governor Ibikunle Amosun had asked the Health Ministry to interact with leaders of muslim and christian groups, and any other groups which have large crowd or congregations.

While he explained that the state had begun training programs for health officials in local government areas, he mentionede that the state was, in collaboration with the Federal Government agencies at the border, working hard to prevent carriers of the virus from entering the state.
